According to the Caribbean Public Health Agency ( Situation Report No 29 (issued on March 31 2020 up to 32 countries in the Caribbean region have reported the importation of at least one confirmed case of COVID 19 The risk of further importation of cases to the Caribbean Region remains Very High The aim for all countries now, is to stop transmission and prevent the spread of the virus Based on the Draft CARPHA Health Sector Response Guidelines for COVID 19 circulated to Member States, most countries are encouraged to implement actions in keeping with the Initial or Targeted Action in the Response Phase

SITUATION
According to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) Situation Report No. 22 (issued on March 13, 2020), the WHO Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared the COVID-19 viral outbreak as a pandemic in a statement on 11 March 2020. This declaration came as a result of the 13-fold increase in COVID-19 cases outside of China with a tripling of the number of affected countries within the past two weeks. This has caused deep concern of not only its rapid spread and severity but also the disturbing lack of action observed in some countries. WHO expects an increase in the number of cases, deaths and affected countries.

SUMMARY OF UPDATES
BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS: DEPARTMENT OF DISASTER MANAGEMENT
- The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) was deactivated on Wednesday 25 September 2019 at 0500 hours.
- The NEOC’s reconnaissance and reports received from heads of essential services and critical public service providers, have confirmed little to no damage to the Territory and as such it is within our capacity to address the minor impacts.
- Water and Power – Electricity was restored with minimal impact to a few communities; there was no disruption to the water supply.
- Telecommunications – Telecom providers continued to provide service without interruption.
- Road Networks – The entire main road network was cleared, making all roads accessible; minor damages have been addressed.
- Debris Management – No special arrangements are required at this time.
- Health/Medical – No surge in injuries or persons seeking medical assistance were observed.
- Airports – Resumed normal operations on Wednesday 25th September 2019.
- Airport & Sea Ports – Resumed international flights at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport and domestic ferry transport between the islands. Resumption of additional international service will depend on the reopening of the ports in the US Virgin Islands.
- Schools – Schools have been reopened on Wednesday 25 September since there were no reported damages.
- Private Sector – resumed operations on Wednesday 25 September 2019 as per usual. No damages were reported in this sector.

Situation Overview:
According to the USGS, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake occurred at approximately 15:10 (AST) on January 28, 2020. The earthquake which occured at a depth of 10km was located north-north-west of Hanover, Jamaica and south of Cuba resulted from a strike-slip fault on the plate boundary between the North America and Caribbean tectonic plates.

SITUATION
Major Hurricane Dorian, the fourth named storm of the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season, impacted the Northern islands of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas from Sunday September 1 to Tuesday September 3, 2019 for approximately 68 hours. Hurricane Dorian devastated Abaco, Grand Bahama and the surrounding Cays, with the southern eye-wall remaining “stationary” for approximately 36 hours over Grand Bahama. At the peak of strength, sustained winds increased to 185 mph and gusts up to 220 mph. The estimated rainfall was 12-15 inches and storm surge, 18-23 feet above sea level.

SITUATION
According to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) Situation Report No. 24 (issued on March 18, 2020), in a statement on 11 March, the WHO declared the COVID-19 outbreak to be a pandemic. Since then, more than 16 countries in the Caribbean region have reported the importation of at least one confirmed case of COVID-19. The risk of further importation of cases to the Caribbean Region remains Very High. Overall, 91% of all cases reported globally so far are from just nine countries.

CARIBBEAN DISASTER EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY (CDEMA) ACTIONS (as at September 27, 2019)
- The CDEMA Team Lead continues to provide coordination support to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) in Nassau. The Team Lead is providing advice to the various Emergency Support Functions (ESF) and to the NEOC Directors and will re-deployed (returned to home base) on October 5, 2019.
- CDEMA has partnered with the World Food Programme (WFP) to provide logistical support with the ongoing relief management operations in The Bahamas. CDEMA's two (2) Logisticians are currently working with the WFP to manage incoming relief, temporary warehouse storage and distribution of items to the impacted population. They will be joined next week (September 30 to October 5, 2019) by an additional four (4) Logisticians from the CDEMA Sub-regional Focal Points (SRFPs) of Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago as part of a training programme aimed at building the capacity and experience of regional logisticians in relief management.

SUMMARY OF UPDATES
BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS: DEPARTMENT OF DISASTER MANAGEMENT
- The country is currently under a Tropical Storm Warning.
- Convened a meeting at 9:30 AM Monday September 23, 2019 with the Governor, Premier and key agencies including the police force and fire department to discuss the preparations for Tropical Storm Karen.
- The NEOC was deactivated at 11:00 AM on Saturday Sept. 21, 2019 for TS Jerry, however national preparations for Tropical Storm Jerry remain in effect for Tropical Storm Karen.
- Further to the 5:00PM update on Tropical Storm Karen today, a decision will be taken on the activation of the NEOC, and closure of the public service. Decisions will also be made on the activation of shelters and other emergency support functions.
- The key concern is flooding as a result of the forecast rainfall. Work is ongoing to clear drains and waterways to minimize flooding.
