Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, April 8th, 2014 (NEMO) - The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) will host two consultations this week to present a draft Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) Policy and Strategy for 2014 - 2023; developed by NEMO in collaboration with the Caribbean Disaster Management Agency (CDEMA).
The CDM Policy Framework emphasizes preparedness on the part of Government, individual sectors, communities, stakeholders and individuals for targeted CDM activities. It aims to strengthen the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO); establishing partnerships, networking and to integrate CDM in the development process with the ultimate objective of strengthening resilience of vulnerable communities to cope with the impact of hazards.
The Saint Vincent and the Grenadines CDM Strategy and Performance Framework 2014 - 2023 is designed to support the achievement of the goals and objectives of the National Economic and Social Development Plan.
The first consultation targets Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Departments and will take place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Conference Room on Wednesday 9th April, 2014. The second consultation which targets other stakeholders in Disaster Management in St. Vincent and the Grenadines will take place on Thursday 10th April, 2014 at the National Insurance Services Conference Room.
The consultations will be facilitated by Disaster Risk Management Specialist and Consultant on the Policy and Strategy, Ms. Sharleen DaBreo. The opening ceremony will commence at 8:30 a.m. at the Foreign Affairs Conference Room on Wednesday 9th April, 2014.
