Situation Report # 1 - Monday, May 25, 2010 as, at 2.00pm
On Monday, May 25, 2010 at approximately 8.45 am local time a landslide occurred at San Sauveur, Dominica. This incident occurred following heavy rains in the area overnight. One house has been destroyed and three persons are reportedly missing. Their ages have been given as 70, 40 and 6 or 7 years old.
The Office of Disaster Management has reported that an Emergency Operations Post has been established at the site and their priority at this time is the search and rescue of the missing persons. All required emergency personnel and equipment have been deployed to the area and search and rescue operations are ongoing.
The Prime Minister of Dominica, Mr. Skerrit, and other ministerial officials visited the site for a first hand look at the extent of the damage and the emergency response operations that are underway.
A contingency plan is in place for the families of three houses that are in the vicinty of the landslide and remain vulnerable.
The Office of Disaster Management has advised the CDEMA Coordinatng Unit (CU), that no assistance is required at this time.
The CDEMA CU will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
