SUTUATION OVERVIEW

Tropical storm conditions are expected in portions of the Cayman Islands tonight Life threatening heavy rains, flash flooding and mudslides are expected across Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and western Cuba, including the Isle of Youth.
On the forecast track, the center of Ida will pass near or over the Cayman Islands during the next few hours, the Isle of Youth and western Cuba Friday, and over the southeastern and central Gulf of Mexico Friday night and Saturday The system is forecast to approach the U S northern Gulf coast on Sunday.

National Hurricane Centre (NHC) Update

According to the National Hurricane Center ( At 1100 AM AST 1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Fred was located near latitude 18 2 North, longitude 69 7 West Fred is moving toward the west northwest near 16 mph (26 km/h), and a general west northwestward motion with a decrease in forward speed is expected to continue for the next few days.

National Hurricane Centre (NHC) Update

 According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, Florida, as of 4:00 PM (AST) on 02 September 2020, the center of Tropical Storm Nana was located near Latitude 17.0 North and Longitude 85.9 West. Nana is moving toward the West near 15 mph (24 km/h). A Westward or West-Southwestward motion is expected tonight and Thursday. On the forecast track, Nana will be moving near but North of the coast of Honduras this evening, and the center should make landfall on the coast of Belize tonight or early Thursday. Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph (95 km/h) with higher gusts. While Nana has not strengthened during the past several hours, strengthening is expected before landfall, and Nana could become a hurricane by the time the centre reaches the coast of Belize. Tropical-storm winds extend outward up to 70 mils (110 Km) from the centre. The estimated minimum central pressure is 999 mb (29.50 inches).

Heavy rainfall could lead to flash and urban flooding over the Virgin Islands.
Across Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Haiti, heavy rainfall may lead to flash, urban and small stream flooding, along with the potential for mudslides.
Tropical storm conditions are possible over portions of Hispaniola Monday and Monday night.

Update

The alert level for the La Soufrière volcano in St Vincent and the Grenadines has been elevated to Orange because of increased activity at the site Monitoring systems, satellite imagery and visual observations have confirmed increased seismic and fumarolic activity, strong gas emissions, emergence of a satellite dome on the SE of the existing volcanic dome and changes to the crater lake An effusive eruption within the crater, with visible gas and steam, was also observed on 29 th December 2020.

National Hurricane Centre (NHC) Update

Tropical Depression Fourteen was located near latitude 17.7 North, longitude 84.3 West. The depression is moving toward the northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h). A slower northwestward motion is expected over the next couple of days, followed by an increase in speed by Sunday and Monday.

On the forecast track, the center of the system will approach the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico on Saturday. The center will then cross the northeastern part of the Yucatan Peninsula Saturday night and move over the central Gulf of Mexico toward the northwestern Gulf on Sunday and Monday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm tonight.

According to the National Hurricane Center ( at 2 00 pm ( tropical storm conditions are expected in portions of the Leeward Islands tonight and early Sunday, and the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Sunday. Tropical storm conditions are possible over eastern parts of the Dominican Republic by early Monday.

According to the National Hurricane Center ( in Miami, Florida, As of 1100 AM EDT 1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Delta, now a category 3 Hurricane, was located near Latitude 18 2 North an d Longitude 82 6 West Delta is moving toward the west northwest near 16 mph 26 km/h) A west northwestward to northwestward motion is expected over the next couple of days A slower northwestward to north northwest motion is forecast to begin by late Wednesday or Wednesday night On the forecast track, the center of Delta is expected to continue to pass southwest of the Cayman Islands through early this afternoon, and move over the northeastern portion of the Yucatan peninsula late tonight or early Wednesday.

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, Florida, as of 5:00 PM (AST) on August 21, 2020, the center of Tropical Storm Laura was located near latitude 17.1 North, longitude 61.2 West. Laura is moving toward the west near 17 mph (28 km/h), and a generally west-northwestward motion at a faster forward speed is expected
over the next couple of days.

On the forecast track, the center of Laura will move near or over portions of the Leeward Islands later today, near or over Puerto Rico Saturday morning, and near the northern coast of Hispaniola late Saturday and early Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts. Some slow strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.
