Bridgetown, Barbados, Tuesday August 17, 2010 – (CDEMA) – CDEMA has convened two meetings to engage key partners and deepen existing regional Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) implementation and development.
The Sixth Meeting of the Comprehensive Disaster Management Coordination and Harmonization Council (CDM CHC) and the 2010 Programming Consultation on Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) will be held on August 19 & 20, 2010 at the Accra Beach Hotel & Spa, Rockley, Christ Church, Barbados.
Delegates include representatives from AusAid, CARDI, CCRIF, CEHI, CIDA, CIMH, CROSQ, CTO, CXC, DFID, EU, IDB, JICA, OECS, PAHO, RSS, UNDP, UNECLAC, USAID, UWI and the World Bank.
Through the CDM CHC forum:
- Support for national and sectoral CDM Programmes through the harmonization and rationalization of resources will be promoted.
- The progress, lesson learned and challenges related to the work of the CDM Governance Mechanism will be reviewed.
- Agreement will be reached on mechanisms for enhancing the CDM Governance Mechanism.
- The status of the development of a Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting Framework of the Enhanced CDM Strategy will be updated.
The Programming Consultation will stimulate dialogue, networking, information sharing and collaboration among CDM Partners while:
- Providing an opportunity for wider CDM Partners to share information on ongoing and planned initiatives related to Comprehensive Disaster Management, and,
- Facilitating the review of partner programming interventions for Haiti.
The CDM Coordination and Harmonization Council (CDM CHC) was established in 2007 and provides policy and technical advice for CDM implementation at the national, sectoral and regional levels. The Council provides overall guidance on CDM development and implementation through mainstreaming of disaster risk reduction, coordination and harmonization of CDM related processes, facilitation of knowledge sharing and capacity strengthening.
