Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, April 19th, 2016 (NEMO) - Senior teachers from primary and secondary schools within close proximity to the La Soufriere Volcano are currently participating in a workshop today, as part of NEMO’s activities to commemorate the 37th anniversary of the eruption of the La Soufriere Volcano.
The main objectives of this workshop are to work with the teachers to explore the impact and response to future volcanic eruptions of the La Soufriere Volcano and to support them in their design of a new or improved plan in response to a volcanic eruption for their schools, so that individuals, colleagues and students are aware of the relevant protocols, and their responsibilities in the event of an eruption during a school day.
The Teachers Workshop is organized by the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) in collaboration with the Strengthening Resilience in Volcanic Areas (STREVA) Project, the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), through support from the Seismic Research Centre (SRC), University of the West Indies and financial support from the Country Directed Fund (CDF), financed by the European Union.
