Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, November 15th, 2013 (NEMO) - A number of persons from the Health Sector, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, Community Members and Secondary Schools Physical Education Teachers would be involved in a five day Emergency Care and Treatment (ECAT) in Disaster Workshop which will commence on Monday 18th November, 2013.
This workshop is organized by the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO). It mainly targets persons who are likely to perform the role of first responders in emergency situations or communities where no immediate medical help may be available.
Director of NEMO, Howie Prince stated that the main objectives of the workshop are:
- To provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to conduct an initial rapid needs assessment of the incident scene.
- To teach participants the techniques for safely moving an injured patient to and from the incident scene.
- To teach participants to recognize critical or urgent versus non-urgent patients.
- To encourage participants to work in tandem with local health resources.
- To provide participants with the skills and knowledge needed to conduct training activities with the assistance of standardized materials provided.
This workshop will take place at NEMO’s Conference Room, Old Montrose, from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd November, 2013, commencing at 8:30 am – 4:00 pm each day.
