Castries, Saint Lucia, March 21st, 2014 - The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) will host a consultation to develop a National Tsunami Contingency Plan on Tuesday 25th March, 2014 and will participate in the ‘Caribe Wave Exercise’ on Wednesday 26th March, 2014. A number of public officers, private sector and other coastal stakeholders will participate in this consultation and exercise.
The objectives of the consultation and exercise are:
- To identify key agencies and define their roles and responsibilities in a National Tsunami Plan;
- To validate the operational readiness to respond to a local/regional source tsunami and identify improvements;
- To test the National Emergency Telecommunications System (radios, fax, email and satellite phones);
- To exercise and evaluate operations of the current Tsunami Warning System.
The consultation and exercise will take place at NEMO’s Conference Room – Old Montrose, beginning at 8:30am each day.
